Play button that rewinds memories ...

With a cup of fresh coffee by my side, I sat down to check Facebook this morning. Almost as a coincidence many of my friends had shared this particular PepsiCo #GharWaliDiwali film on their timelines commenting "Nostalgic","OMG this is beautiful. Moved me to tears","What's Diwali or any celebration for that matter without family." etc. I clicked the little play button out of curiosity. Little did I know at that time, the play button was rather a rewind button to all the wonderful memories of Diwali celebrations back home in the past. Nostalgia took over completely!

Those days Diwali fervor used to start almost a fortnight before the festival, browsing through catalogues of different firework dealers, trying to figure out what's new in the market and making a rough selection of crackers to buy that year. Planning big time with siblings, friends and relatives on what all crackers to buy! On the day of shopping, totally go overboard with cracker selections (looking at what other's buy) and overshoot dad's budget by a great margin!! But hey, Diwali comes once a year right? so nobody says "NO", have taken a great advantage of that!! ;-) I fondly remember how it used to be a matter of pride, showing off all the cracker collections with friends and bursting them for more time compared to others :-)

The weekend before the festival was always dedicated for shopping! I recollect how it used to be a full day trip to different shopping centers, wading through a sea of crowd, tirelessly going through hundreds of new collections and making a selection for everyone at home! Festival atmosphere used to kick in big time during those times.

Relatives used to visit the house and all the ladies in the family used to sit together and prepare various sweets and special delicacies for the festival. Such a fantastic bonding time for everyone in the family!

Diwali festival used to be all about crackers, food and new movies that release that day. Typically the day would start very early, even before the break of dawn to fire crackers and wake everyone up in the neighborhood! Once the mischievous deed is done, it used to be all about sitting together with everyone in the family and munching on all the great food that was prepared for the day and brought in by the neighbors. Nothing can beat that simple yet special moments of watching movies together, cracking jokes on one another and eating great food together as a family!! The festival night used to be dazzling display of lights all around the house and the show of colorful crackers on the sky.

Times have changed and today I sit miles away from my family for work reasons, unable to visit hometown for this year's festival due to unavailability of vacation leaves. Just three more days to go for the festival but I don't feel the festivities here as yet. No sound of crackers and that crazy frenzy of shopping. I really miss those celebrations together as a family. There is definitely no Diwali like #GharWaliDiwali. But thanks to this video, at least it has given me some push to go out and do some shopping and feel the festivities!! Wish you all a very Happy Diwali!!
